everything changes again

they have a new house which
is just temporary until
the baby comes sometime in the midst of
gusty, beautiful september.
their front porch was
like a surreality.
I sat and ate watermelon with
my barefeet dangling
and swinging while the wind moved the
long and unkept grass.

later, as you pulled into the driveway
I ran my hand along the taillights
of your truck as it
drove away.

two more days until everything changes (again).
