sleepyskin's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

unable to wake him

the black of current under us
as the ferry moved us back 'home'
next to me,
he stood, arms folded over the railing.
we waved good bye to the place
that felt so much like
where we should have been
born from.
her salty air, her beaches
her trees, her tranquility.
inside we knew this was it
as it had been it before it was ever seen.

the previous night, we
collapsed into sleep, the window
open and sound of dawn approaching.
naked and vulnerable, I watched him
as his chest rose and fell,
the rooster crowing in the distance
unable to wake him.
